Nits1 Transfer Conveyor Project
Process 26 were engaged by Rio Tinto Iron Ore to design and construct a 230 metre overland conveyor to transfer 1500tph of iron ore from the Silvergrass overland conveyor into the Nammuldi BWT crushing circuit. The project allows Rio Tinto to bypass the scrubbing circuit when the ore characteristics permit.
The head end section of the new conveyor was designed such that it could be preassembled on the ground and installed as an assembly over the existing plant conveyor, thus minimizing plant down time.
Due to the compressed delivery schedule, Process 26 was required to develop a gravity take-up system which could be de-tensioned without the requirement for an electric winch. The final solution allows the counterweight to be raised and lowered by a mobile crane without any person having to work around unguarded potential energy sources.
The electrical control system was designed to meet all Rio Tinto standards and was integrated into the existing electrical substation.
Process 26 was responsible for all civil, mechanical, structural and electrical design and installation activities. The conveyor was commissioned 3 months from award.
