Kambalda Nickel Concentrator Primary Crushing Plant
Project Details Process 26 was engaged by Cape Crushing to design and construct a 1.5 Mtpa primary crushing circuit at its Kambalda Nickel Concentrator, operated on behalf of BHP Billiton Nickel West.
Process 26 performed all civil, structural, mechanical and electrical design using both in-house expertise and specialist external engineering support.
Cape Crushing’s key criterion was that the facility be designed with safe operation and maintenance access as priority functions. Modular construction was required for ease of relocation to possible future projects. Close collaboration with Nickel West personnel was necessary throughout to ensure that compatibility with the existing operation was maximised.
Process 26 supplied on-site management, supervision, construction labour, materials and equipment to complete the construction of the plant whilst fabrication and procurement activities were managed on behalf of Cape Crushing. Select civil and electrical subcontractors were also managed by Process 26.
Wet commissioning of the plant occurred 28 weeks after the initial kick off meeting. The plant has operated consistently at or above design throughput since this time.
